The addition of itraconazole to patients stabilized on digoxin has resulted in two to fourfold increases in serum digoxin concentrations and digoxin toxicity. The mechanism is unknown. The onset of toxicity generally occurs within 9 to 13 days after the start of itraconazole therapy.
