Coadministration of efavirenz and indinavir causes a decreased indinavir level. The mechanism of this interaction is hepatic enzyme induction of CYP3A4 by efavirenz. The dosage of indinavir should be increased from 800 mg every 8 hours to 1000 mg every 8 hours when these drugs are administered concomitantly.
