Details

Gemfibrozil and lovastatin used together can cause severe myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Combined use of gemfibrozil or clofibrate with other HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors may increase the risk of this side effect as well. If this combination must be used, the patient should be instructed to report symptoms of muscular pain, weakness, or tenderness. If creatine kinase is elevated, the drugs should be discontinued.
