metronidazole 250 mg, qid x 10 days $1.11/10 days
Second-line therapies:
vancomycin 125 mg, qid x 10 days $262.24/10 days
-If possible stop antibiotic(s) responsible for the Clostridium difficile superinfection.
-Avoid antimotility agents (loperamide and diphenoxylate).
-Relapse rate is as high as 20%.
