1. Trimethoprim/ sulfamethoxasole 160 mg/800 mg tablet 3 times per week $0.36/week

or 160 mg/800 mg tablet bid 2 times per week $0.49/week

OR

2. diaphenylsulfone 100 mg, twice weekly $0.39/week

AND

pyrimethamine 25-50 mg, twice weekly $2.14-4.28/week

AND

folic acid 5-10 mg, once daily $0.01/day

OR

3. diaphenylsulfone 50 mg, once daily $0.68/week

AND

pyrimethamine 50 mg, every week $2.14/week

AND

folic acid 5-10 mg, once daily $0.01/day

-Routine primary toxoplasmosis prophylaxis is not recommended. It is sometimes advocated for patients with positive toxoplasmosis serology and a CD4 count below 0.15 x 10(9) cells/L.

-Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxasole and possibly diaphenylsulfone prophylaxis for PCP may be effective toxoplasmosis prophylaxis.

-The efficacy of 25 mg pyrimethamine, once daily, has not been established.
